ST. MARY CHURCH FINANCIAL REPORT 2006-2007 |
To: All St. Mary Parishioners November 11, 2007
Greetings from Fr. Ed and Finance Council. The Finance Council is a group of lay people whose purpose, according to Diocesan procedures, is to “aid the pastor in the administration of parish goods.” For the first time, the Diocese has mandated the use of a specific financial reporting format. As a result, our financial report to the parish looks different from past years’ reports. The report for our fiscal twelve months ending June 30, 2007 follows.
Many of our parishioners are extremely generous in freely giving their time, talent and treasure. Your generosity was particularly evident during our recent successful drive to increase offertory contributions. This increase has allowed us to not only meet our increasing operating expenses, but also to begin addressing our facility maintenance and capital improvement projects. Many of these expenses are not as obvious as monthly operating expenses, but are crucial for the well-being and integrity of our church. Many of these expenses were delayed in past years due both to a lack of funds and the roof replacement of the main church.
Last year, we drilled a gas well on the Parish property. We appreciated your patience while much of the lower parking lot was unusable. The gas well has provided us a $38,000 savings from our budgeted gas expenses for the church’s 2006-2007 fiscal year and continues to generate a significant amount of gas. We expect this trend to continue for several more years. Again, we thank you for your patience with us during the well drilling.
As pointed out in last year’s report, St. Mary buildings were constructed at various times between 1968 and 1995. Just as in our homes, both routine maintenance and replacement of items such as HVAC systems and other components need to be done. We were also able to make significant repairs to the lower parking lot and curbing along the upper entrance, update two of our bathrooms, and enhance landscaping around the church. We are thankful that we have been able to begin to meet some of these capital needs in addition to our regular monthly operating expenses. Again, we are most grateful to those of you who continue to make it possible to meet these expenses, now and in the future.
Our financial report using the Diocesan format follows. In addition to the bulletin insert, our report is on the St. Mary website. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome and should be directed to the St. Mary Finance Council c/o the parish office or by calling one of us at any time.
Yours in Christ,
Reverend Edward Kordas Bill O’Brien, Chairperson
