Presidents Message

Hello, ladies, and welcome to another exciting Guild year!

I am thrilled to represent the Guild as this year’s President.  With the support of those who have also stepped into Board positions, and many of you who are always willing to lend a hand, I am confident that we will have a remarkably well-served year.

A little bit about myself…

My husband, Joe, and I moved to Hudson with our four children ten years ago from upstate New York.  Although the thought of moving to “Cleveland” did not initially appeal to me, we settled into Hudson very quickly, and into St. Mary’s just one week after unpacking the boxes.  It was the friendly invitation of two members of the Women’s Guild to their upcoming Circle meeting that made me realize my family had “landed” somewhere special.  Two years later, I was chairing that particular Circle, and then moved on to Board positions over the next several years as Circle Chair Coordinator, Hospitality Committee, and now, President.  A decade after our move, my family is also very involved.  We are not strangers to the halls of our parish, serving on many church committees and involving ourselves in various ministries.  Through all of this, we have come to know the true “heart and soul” of St. Mary’s- its parishioners.

Plans are already well underway for a terrific Guild year.  I do hope you take advantage of the opportunity before you.  Join the Guild…join a Circle…and attend the wonderful events planned for the months ahead.  You, too, will come to know the warm-hearted, compassionate people of St. Mary’s as dear friends.

And so another Guild year begins…May we serve Him and each other well.

What’s Cooking?

The What’s Cooking? Committee has been hard at work in preparation for the second annual fundraising event. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 4 when the hugely successful kitchen and tasting tour will again place six distinguished chefs in the homes of six Hudson residents.

What’s Cooking? is a relatively new twist on Guild fundraising efforts and enables our  organization to generously support local, national and international causes impacting the lives of women and children.

Presale tickets for What’s Cooking? will provide patrons with access to six venues where local chef will prepare delicacies, offer suggestions, and provide recipes. Watch the bulletin, Hub, and Newsletter for more information about the tour, ticket sales, and guest chefs.

What can you do to help:

• Mark your calendar for November 4, 2007

• Volunteer to work a shift as a home hostess. The tour will be from Noon to 4 p.m. with 1 ½ hour shifts starting at 11:15.

• Talk about our fundraiser with neighbors and friends. Buy a ticket and get your friends to join you on the tour as a carpool group. Ticket price is $45 and admits you to all homes.

• Contact coordinators Mary Auth (mauth@alltel.net) or Beth Gilliam (gilliam.beth@gmail.com) if you have questions.

• Familiarize yourself with Guild Missions of Outreach. All proceeds from Guild fundraisers go to worthy causes and
parish needs. The Guild has a rich and varied history of generosity and compassions as a legacy.

• Watch the Guild Newsletter for further updates on homes, chefs, and florists involved in this unique tasting tour.
