Our Goals
“To build a Habitat house each year
To cover the cost of the building materials
To provide all the required volunteers
To inform and encourage community involvement”
Habitat Background at St. Mary’s
Did you know that St. Mary Church is a standing member of the Hudson Habitat for Humanity Coalition? The Hudson Coalition is dedicated to building at least one Habitat house each year and has done so since 1991. The Hudson Coalition seeks broad Hudson community involvement in providing simple, decent housing for people in need.
What Do We Do?
Each year, from May through December, St Mary’s assumes a major stewardship for the construction of a Habitat for Humanity house.
We provide overall fundraising, construction management, organize volunteers, and see the project through to completion and transfer to the new owner.
Our Coalition is a partner with Habitat for Humanity of Summit County. The Summit County organization has built more than 122 Habitat houses in the last 15 years. St Mary’s with the Hudson Coalition has built 14 of these homes. In the US alone over 6,000 homes were built last year.
The Economics
of Jesus
When people act in response to human need, giving what they have without seeking profit or interest, we believe God magnifies the effects of our efforts. Habitat refers to this perspective as "the economics of Jesus." Together, the donated labor of construction volunteers, the financial support of individuals and organizations and the homeowner’s "sweat equity" make Habitat's house-building possible. By sharing resources with those in need, Habitat supporters have made decent, affordable housing a reality for more than 150,000 families worldwide.
