WHAT IS IT?
St. Mary Church began using the LIFE TEEN model for youth ministry on September 26, 1993. Our mission statement is very simple: TO LEAD TEENS CLOSER TO CHRIST.
This mission is accomplished in three ways:
LIFE TEEN consists of a special celebration of Eucharist on Sunday evenings followed by weekly LIFE Nights. Our program includes two retreats per year (one in the fall and one in the spring), service projects, several outings (including Cedar Point, White Water Rafting, Ski Trip, The Fest, Alive Festival, etc.) and additional opportunities for enrichment (leadership seminars, prayer group, EXALT, WORD OUT prayer opportunity).
There is a program called Seekers, for juniors and seniors interested in receiving the sacrament of Confirmation, which runs in tandem with LIFE TEEN. We expect teens that will want to participate in Confirmation to attend LIFE TEEN weekly during their high school years.
You name an area, and our teens are involved in it! They do liturgical ministries, they have pilgrimaged, they have helped the Hudson flood victims of last summer, they have helped with the parish picnic, the Giving Tree, and they serve outside the parish in the name of St. Mary Church in such places as Appalachia, St. Aloysius in Cleveland, and Haven of Rest in downtown Akron. Every Good Friday, they put on a powerful drama, Living Stations of the Cross.
You are also free to contact Diana Abood, Coordinator of Youth Ministry, for more information at 330-653-6513, ext. 228.
